25th October 2025 Emitremmus Walk
The 60 bus from Chi Bus Station left promptly with Dave Taylor, James Bell and Laurie Dooley on board, joined shortly by Richard Earl, Geoff Curnow, Pete Luff and Neil Sephton. At the Pretoria Avenue stop in Midhurst we were joined by local man Malcolm, resplendent in his feathered hat (the man from Ezbyn (Easbourne) as he says it). We walked across Midhurst Common to the Half Moon on the Petersfield Road, where, such disappointment, the pub had run out of beer. not downhearted we walked to the Brickmakers in the centre of Midhurst; here was Timothy Taylor Landlord (NBSS 3.0) and Greene King IPA. Then a short hop to the Swan Inn with Harvey's Sussex Best (NBSS 3.0) and Malcolm was greeted like an old friend; because he had drunk all the Harvey's Old Ale last night. Here we met Ric Cooper, another Midhurst local, who had been waiting for us for a while. Laurie kept everyone on their toes, sweeping the group out at 15:13 precisely, and on to the salubrious surroundings of the Cowdray Golf Clubhouse, with Fuller's London Pride (NBSS 3.5) and Langham Best Bitter (and muzak in the toilets). Next we upset the golfers on the fairway following the Sussex Diamond Right of Way, poorly marked across the course and eventually came to Queen Elizabeth I's Oak, a magnificent elderly oak tree reputedly seeded in 1000AD; following QEII's Jubilee avenue we came to the Hollist Arms where the Palmer's Dorset Gold ran out as we entered - Boo, but they had Palmer's Copper Pale Ale and Langham's Best Bitter (NBSS 3.0), so we were mollified, except for the price - £6.50 per pint. Next was the Right of Way to the Halfway Bridge Inn which had a tired Langham's Best on; some did not even bother, drinking Beavertown Neck Oil keg instead, but I thought it was OK - compromised taste buds or what? Pete Luff had hopped off to Langham's, even though they weren't answering the phone when someone tried to find out if they were open. The last bus back to Midhurst was 18:29 and we managed to blind drivers on the A272 with our head torches, but it made sure the bus driver saw us. Then back to Chi for 19:30.
