Saturday Social to Lymington

Saturday 31 January 2026 10:33

On Saturday 31st January, a group of members went to Lymington by train. We gathered at Chichester station and started our adventure at Brockenhurst, took the bus and walked over damp New Forest fields encountering some ponies on the way to the Pig Brewery Tap Room with Storm IPA, Rust red ale, Sauber wheat beer, Blak cocoa milk stout and Chery cocoa milk cherry stout. Some debate here as to whether we could score the beer under NBSS as it was all in kegs. We would have scored the Chery a zillion points, it was so good. Geoff left us here to explore the Filly Inn which he described as a restaurant serving beer; the beer was OK; London Pride, TT Landlord and the Doom Bar was off, but nothing exciting. Next was the bus again to the Monkey Brewhouse (with its own dedicated bus stop); on here was cask Tollhouse bitter, Sea Wall session IPA, and Rye-noplasty rye stout; kegs were Chimpy imperial stout, Buckland Howler pale ale and Jungle Pop pale. A brisk walk took us to the Bosun's Chair near Lymington Town Station Where we tried the Wadworth 6X 1923, brewed to celebrate 100 years of 6X and reputedly to the original recipe. It was a little off (NBSS 1½) but the alternative, Henry's IPA was worse. Returning at 5:00pm to the Brockenhurst train; "Which Platform?" it didn't matter as there was only one. Mark Geeson and friends went off to visit the Brockenhurst pubs he remembered, while the rest of us opted for the return to Chi.
