Ale Trail to Old House at Home, Berkeley Arms, Bulls Head

Saturday 30 May 2026 11:00

Laurie Dooley met Richard Earl, James Bell, Jane Marston Chris Maher, Dave Taylor and Pete Luff (now on his second Passport) at Chi Bus Station for the 11:00 700; Geoff Curnow joined us at Cathedral and Chris Ray and Heather Lawn in Bosham. Getting off at The Barleycorn, we opted to avoid that pub as Laurie and Keith Stevens had had a bad experience last year. The walk along Cot Lane should have taken 20 minutes according to Google; it took us about half-an-hour, even with long legs Richard to pace us. Old House at Home welcomed us weary travellers with Timmy Taylor Landlord, Harvey's Sussex Best, Doom Bar, Flower Pots Gooden's Gold, Pots Bitter and Perridge Pale on handpump.

Karen, Sarah and Kane behind the bar get a special mention here for happily stamping our Passports. Good job it was a sunny day as we had to sit in the garden; all the large indoor tables were reserved (but nobody sitting at them of course). Then the slog back to the bus stop; another half-hour; still we managed, although Chris stayed in the shade until the bus arrived.

Then another walk (although not as far) to the Berkeley Arms, an ex-Gales Fuller's pub with HSB, London Pride, Salcombe Gold and St Austell Anthem on offer. We managed to bag a big 'reserved' table, (but it was OK; they were sitting inside).

Back to the bus stop and a couple of stops to the Bull's Head at Fishbourne; Gale's HSB, London Pride, Dark Star Hophead, Gale's Seafarer's and unusually Fuller's ESB, which went down a treat. With all Passports stamped, we got back to Chi at about 5:00pm
