Ale Trail 26 E of Chi

Saturday 22 August 2026 13:05

At Chi Bus Station, we were early for the 500 bus; Laurie Dooley met Stephen Cox and Jane Marston followed by Heather Lawn and Chris Ray

The bus was supposed to leave at 13:05, but at 13:15 we were still waiting for it to turn up

When it did, the driver declared a fault which required a fitter to attend from over the road; he declared he couldn't fix it so another bus was brought

We finally left at 13:49 and arrived in Yapton at 14:55

a brisk walk took us to the Maypole, where Chris Ray (who had taken the train and walked) had met with Richard Earl and Anne Earl, who had already been to the Murrell Arms, David Taylor and James Bell.

Here was Henry Kirk's Sunken Knave IPA (NBSS Very Good) and Downland Devil's Dyke

Trying for the Holly Tree, Laurie foolishly wrote 'leave at 15:03' on the CAMRA chalkboard. By the time realisation of the lateness had set in, it was already 15:15 so that was that; no Holly Tree.

So, the Murrell Arms, London Pride(NBSS Very Good), Gale's HSB and Vocation Bread & Butter (NBSS Very Good); leaving, I met James, Chris and Heather getting off the 66C as I got on.

Another disaster day because buses; but we'll carry on.
